Implications for the
Speech Language Pathologist
The SLP is very involved in the assessment process, treatment plan, and research of vocal nodules. An explanation of what to expect during the evaluation process and when diagnosing vocal fold nodules can be found in the Assessment section of this webpage.
Once nodules are found, it is important that treatment begins as soon as possible to ensure that the nodules do not grow larger and cause more damage. Treatment is also used to educate the client on vocal hygiene and proper vocal usage to prevent any future damage. For more information on the treatment of vocal nodules, see the Intervention section of this webpage.
Lastly, research is constantly being done by experienced SLPs to learn more about the cause, prevention, and treatment of vocal fold nodules.
